Implementation of the KKNI-Based Curriculum to Address the Challenges of Sustainable Islamic Education

This study aims to describe the implementation of the KKNI-based curriculum in the Islamic Education Study Programs (PAI) at FAI UMSU, FAI UISU, and FITK UIN SU, focusing on curriculum change mechanisms, curriculum development and design models, and KKNI-based curriculum application. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected through observations, interviews, document studies, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and analyzed through data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal varied results: at PAI FAI UISU, curriculum implementation is limited due to ineffective coordination among faculty leaders, program heads, and lecturers, with only a few lecturers applying KKNI; at PAI FAI UMSU, all lecturers implement KKNI supported by strong leadership, monitoring teams (MONEV), and adequate facilities; while at PAI FITK UIN SU, the lack of firm policies and supporting facilities has resulted in inconsistent implementation among lecturers.
