Application of Palm Frond Fermentation Technology as Alternative Cattle Feed in Timbang Lawan Village

This community service activity was carried out in Timbang Lawan Village, Hamlet IX, with the aim of utilizing palm oil frond waste through a fermentation process as alternative feed for cattle. The background for this activity was based on the abundant availability of palm oil fronds that had not been optimally utilized. The implementation methods included socialization, training in palm oil waste fermentation with the addition of microorganisms, and assistance to farmers in applying this technology. The training was attended by one farmer with a trial on four beef cattle. The activity methods included socialization, training in fermentation techniques using EM4 solution and molasses, and assistance in applying the technology. The results showed an 80% increase in farmers' knowledge (based on questionnaires) and skills in processing palm frond waste, a 15% increase in cattle feed consumption, and a 25% reduction in feed costs compared to conventional forage. In addition to providing economic benefits, this activity also contributed to reducing agricultural waste and increasing public awareness of sustainable feed technology. Thus, the use of fermented palm fronds has the potential to be a real solution in supporting livestock food security in rural areas.
