Open Access Policy

Journal of Information Systems and Technology Research (JISTR) is committed to providing immediate, free, and unrestricted access to published scholarly research. The journal supports the principle that making scientific knowledge openly accessible promotes the dissemination of research findings, scholarly collaboration, academic development, technological innovation, and the global exchange of scientific information.

JISTR adopts a Gold Open Access publishing model, under which the final published versions of scholarly articles are made freely available to readers immediately upon publication. The journal aims to ensure that researchers, academics, students, practitioners, policymakers, and the general public can access published research without financial or subscription barriers.

This policy establishes the journal's approach to open access publishing, reader accessibility, reuse of published materials, licensing arrangements, and the relationship between open access and article processing charges.

1. Open Access Publishing Model

JISTR operates under a Gold Open Access model. Under this model, all articles published by the journal are made immediately and freely accessible through the journal's official online publishing platform.

The final published version of each article, also known as the Version of Record, is made publicly accessible upon official publication. Readers are not required to pay subscription fees, purchase individual articles, or obtain paid access privileges to read or download published scholarly content.

The journal's open access model is intended to support broad and equitable access to scientific information and to facilitate the responsible dissemination and reuse of scholarly research in accordance with the applicable copyright and licensing conditions.

Gold Open Access refers to the immediate availability of the final published article through the journal's publishing platform. It does not require that all articles be published without author processing charges. Any applicable publication fees are governed separately by the journal's Publication Fees Policy.

2. Free and Immediate Access

All published articles are freely accessible through the official JISTR website. Readers may read, download, and access the full text of published articles without subscription fees, pay-per-view charges, or other reader access fees.

JISTR does not require readers to register an account or log in to access publicly available published articles. Access to the journal's scholarly content is provided without mandatory reader registration.

Articles become publicly available immediately upon official online publication. The journal does not impose an embargo period or intentionally delay public access to the final published versions of its articles.

The journal is committed to maintaining continued public access to published scholarly content, subject to necessary technical maintenance, digital preservation arrangements, and appropriate post-publication actions required to protect research integrity.

3. Availability of Published Articles

Published articles are made electronically available through the journal's Open Journal Systems (OJS) publishing platform. Readers can access current and previously published issues through the journal's official website.

The journal provides access to article information, including titles, author names, abstracts, keywords, publication details, and available full-text publication files. Published articles are organized by volume and issue to facilitate scholarly discovery, citation, and retrieval.

The journal supports the continued accessibility of published research through appropriate electronic archiving, data protection, and digital preservation arrangements.

4. Copyright, Licensing, and Reuse

Articles covered by the journal's current licensing policy are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0).

This license permits users to share, copy, redistribute, adapt, remix, transform, and build upon the licensed material, including for commercial purposes, provided that the applicable license conditions are respected.

The principal licensing requirements include:

  • Attribution: Users must provide appropriate credit to the original authors, identify the source, provide a link to the applicable license, and indicate whether changes were made.
  • ShareAlike: Adapted materials must be distributed under the same license or a compatible license permitted under CC BY-SA 4.0.
  • No Additional Restrictions: Users must not impose legal terms or technological measures that restrict others from exercising the permissions granted by the license.
  • Third-Party Materials: Materials not covered by the article's Creative Commons license may require separate permission from the relevant copyright holders.

Authors retain copyright ownership of their scholarly works in accordance with the journal's Copyright and Licensing Policy. Open access publication does not remove the obligation to acknowledge original authorship, respect intellectual property rights, or comply with applicable licensing conditions.

For detailed information regarding copyright ownership, licensing permissions, attribution requirements, author rights, and permitted reuse, please refer to the Copyright and Licensing Policy.

Additional information about the Creative Commons license is available at Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International.

5. Article Processing Charges and Reader Access

JISTR distinguishes between article processing charges (APCs), where applicable to authors, and access to published articles by readers.

Article processing charges may be applied in accordance with the journal's established Publication Fees Policy. These charges are associated with scholarly publishing activities and do not constitute subscription fees or reader access charges.

All published articles remain freely accessible to readers regardless of whether an article processing charge has been applied, waived, or otherwise administered under the journal's publication fee arrangements.

Publication fees must not influence the independent scientific evaluation of manuscripts, peer-review outcomes, or editorial decisions regarding manuscript acceptance or rejection. Editorial decisions are based on scientific merit, relevance, originality, methodological quality, and compliance with the journal's ethical requirements.

Complete information concerning applicable charges, payment conditions, and fee policies is provided in the Publication Fees (APC) page.

This Open Access Policy should be read in conjunction with other journal policies concerning copyright, publication ethics, electronic archiving, and scholarly publishing responsibilities.
